Day 1 Hampshire – Portsmouth

02/08/10 (37 miles)

We were fortunate to have another ‘short cut’ on our trip now, as one of my brother’s has a house in S.Warnborough, Hants. Turns out we would be heading through this direction, so we decided to drive the bikes down on the trailer and kit up at his house, before riding the final 35 miles to the Portsmouth ferry.

Once we had the bike loaded, Helen was able to have a quick ride around the grounds to get her bike legs on again which worked a treat as she was instantly happier at heading off on the roads.

I loaded my bike up with the tools, maps, both roll mats & sleeping bags, the tent, cooking equipment and my gear, while Helen carried her clothes (less than mine!) first aid and food.

We got to the port in good time as H was much more relaxed on the roads, so it was first holiday drink time and some food, before boarding. Once on board we were treate to a great sunset…

We soon realised this was the best way to get to Spain and now had 36 hours of relaxing on board ahead of us. Fingers crossed tomorrow would bring Dolphin and Whale watching along the Bay of Biscay, where it’s rumoured there are regular sightings!
